Peace Child Alpha Omega is a musical exploration of faith and culture produced by Peace Child International and funded by the European Union. There were 3 productions during 2010 – in Ely, Tallinn and Istanbul. In Ely it was described as “a musical journey through faith.” When a catastrophe brings Ely to a standstill 4 young people from different backgrounds are forced to re-examine their identities and belief systems. In Estonia – with a largely secular population the focus was inter generational dialogue as the children of a new independent country have very different life experiences and expectations than the older generation In Istanbul the focus was on cultural prejudice- how to incorporate new ideas without losing your national identity. Each performance was very different but revolved around our place in the world and our identity. Follow on. The producers would like to make this work available to different schools and community centres. They created each performance with an orchestra and choirs from the 3 different countries. The music is available for others to use and can be done far more simply. Schools wishing to put on the production might also want to engage students in the accompanying lesson plans which are aimed at pupils aged 10+.
