FRAGILE is based on the experience of the Norwegian choreographer Kjersti Kramm Engebrigtsen in dance for blind people and similar experiences of the Estonian choreographer Ajjar Ausma and the Portuguese choreographer Ana Rita Barata.

FRAGILE aims at exchanging knowledge about dancing with blind/visually impaired people, enhancing the integration of the visually impaired in the performing arts through transnational collaboration, and raising awareness on the importance of movement. The objective is for dancers, choreographers and visually impaired with dance training to be able to find a new “dance language” together. The three choreographers will work together for almost two years through seminars, meetings and workshops. They will create three new performances to be shown in 2013 in Lisbon, Oslo and Tallinn, and be documented by three films. Salamanda Tandem (U.K.) has recently become our fourth partner. The Artistic Director Isabel Jones is a specialist in dance for the visually impaired and will play an important role in the shaping of the Symposium in Tallinn in April 2013 which marks the end of FRAGILE.

The project crosses art borders as well as country borders by including composers, costume and lighting designers and filmmakers from different countries. The aim is to include special needs educators and dance teachers from the different countries in the process, in order to anchor the project within the local communities.
