The project Art and Culture in Prison turns on the awareness and valorisation of cultural spaces promoted inside prisons in the different national realities, the development of international collaborative relationships between the various actors involved in promoting such activities, the promotion of intercultural initiatives and the dissemination of the artistic productions achieved. Awareness building will involve a qualitative examination of the strategies and initiatives implemented and an assessment of the consequences and effects of cultural activities both inside and outside prisons. Cultural spaces in prisons can be valorised by building a European network of cultural prison operators, by disseminating cultural experiences outwith prison confines, with a view to enabling them to become a real part of the local and European cultural heritage, by identifying shared criteria for the implementation of quality projects in the medium to long term.
