The “Beyond the stage – new trends in European theatre” project presented a contemporary, interdisciplinary approach to dramatic arts, by combining high quality artistic activity, theoretical thought and education. It was run by a network of experienced European cultural operators: Shakespeare festivals from Poland (Gdańsk), Romania (Craiova) and Hungary (Gyula) as well as the London Metropolitan University and the Parrabbola theatre company from Great Britain. The project made possible an exchange between artists from participating countries and outside of them; it also contributed to the mobility of culture experts, academics and practitioners involved in the research of the project’s theme. An additional outcome of the project was the exchange of students and workshop instructors between those countries participating in the educational program. The project attained its goal of teaching a new way of thinking about theatre and its role in the world of developing multimedia communication, through the presentation of five multimedia plays, art installations, an international conference about intermedia theatre called “Blending the Media. Art in the Theatre / Theatre in the Arts”, as well as a complex educational program dealing with art, theatre and new media.
