European Public Art Centre – EPAC is a programme which consists of eight multi-purpose outdoor exhibition spaces established in nine participating countries (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom and Iceland).

Activities:

• Exhibition in the centre – Public Technologies is taking place in each country involved and focuses on the collaboration between art and science
• Round-table discussion – “Art Technologies”
• Workshop and panel-discussion “Art/Science/Technologies” – “Science and technologies in the name of art?”
• Seminar – “Public Technologies”
• Launch of network “CAST” (Contemporary Art, Science and Technologies)

The primary aim of the “European Public Art Centre – EPAC” programme was to establish the first public art centre in Europe and to have a permanent physical exhibition space in most European countries. It also aims to foster interdisciplinary contemporary culture and particularly collaboration between art and science, creating experimental visual art projects in public spaces that seek innovative solutions for breaking down elitism in the artistic world through openness and accessibility, thereby engaging passive segments of society in the integration of European cultures.

Eight permanent, specially-designed, three-dimensional, 2-metre high stands, capable of withstanding various environmental pressures (both climatic and human), and equipped for exhibiting visual, interdisciplinary and new media artworks, were installed in public spaces in all participating countries, establishing the first ever pan-European, easily-accessible contemporary art venue. One permanent stand was installed in a public urban space in each country.
