The European Association of Historic Towns and Regions (EAHTR) was originally formed as part of the Council of Europe’s initiative ‘Europe – A Common Heritage, in October 1999 . EAHTR aims to promote the interests of Europe’s historic cities through: International cooperation between historic towns and between heritage organisations; Sharing experience and good practice between historic towns in the fields of urban conservation and cultural heritage; Promoting sustainable management of historic towns and investment in cultural heritage. EAHTR is a network organisation involving international, national and regional associations of historic towns, individual heritage and historic cities plus university and research organisations.
