E-MOTIONAL Bodies & Cities is a two-year mobility and artistic exchange dance programme gathering artists and managers from six European countries – Romania, Cyprus, Ireland, Latvia, United Kingdom, and Turkey. The programme plans to identify, nurture, attract and sustain talent and creativity at the European level, by connecting artists and dance managers from countries participating in the project through mobility grants, residencies, fellowships, artistic research and performance co-production and exchange.

Beginning in July 2011 it comprises of five interdisciplinary Artistic Research periods in the partner countries; the Motion Fund, a special funding scheme aimed at promoting cross-border mobility of the dance sector including the ArtistNe(s)t – a network to support the development of new collaborative performances and tours, the Gabriela Tudor Fellowship and the Mobility Grants; and a final Forum which will wrap the project in April 2013.

E-Motional is a co-operation between body>data>space (UK), Gabriela Tudor Foundation (RO) (lead organiser), Dublin Dance Festival (IRL), The Association of the Professional Dance Choreographers in Latvia (LAT), Dance House Lemesos (CY).

The interdisciplinary ARTISTIC RESEARCH is the flagship of the project. A series of 5 cross-border working periods are organised alternatively in Dublin, Riga, Limassol, London and Bucharest to question the emotional body and its relation with these cities. Two different artistic teams are embarking together in a co-authorship process to explore the relation between the human body, the urban and geo-political context and new technologies. Each artistic team is composed of five artists, one from each country, who may also come from different disciplines. The groups have the chance to interact, work and benefit from the support of three local dancers or other associated artists. Each research period also include a number of workshops and video-lectures open to local participants and artists, and conclude with an informal presentation open to the local audience in the respective city.

body>data>space will host the London residency at the Watermans Centre in January 2013 for the Artist Group 2.

We are very happy to announce the following list of UK artists and cultural managers who are participating in E-Motional in 2012/2013:

body>data>space is also involved in training sessions for young cultural project managers in Cyprus and Latvia in 2012/2013.

E-MOTIONAL Bodies & Cities is a project created and produced by Gabriela Tudor Foundation in Bucharest in collaboration with key partners Dublin Dance Festival and Dance Ireland (IE), The Association of Professional Dance Choreographers of Latvia (LV), Dance House Lemesos (CY), and body>data>space (UK), as coorganisers, and developed with support from the Culture 2007-2013 Programme of the European Union. The Artistic Research project strand is developed with support from the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam.
